The world was taken aback when Catherine, the Princess of Wales, announced her battle with cancer, describing the diagnosis as a “huge shock” not only to her but to the entire royal family. Through a heartfelt video message shared on March 22, she opened up about her journey, revealing her current treatment of preventative chemotherapy. This announcement followed a period of speculation about her health condition after she underwent what was described as “planned abdominal surgery” in January.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” Kate shared in the video, her voice filled with emotion. She explained how further tests after the surgery led to the discovery of cancer, marking a challenging time for her and her family. Yet, she expressed deep gratitude towards her medical team for their exceptional care.

Kate’s surgery took place at The London Clinic, and she spent 13 days recovering there. The palace later updated the public that she was “making good progress.” Although the surgery was initially deemed a success, it was the subsequent tests that unveiled the presence of cancer, a detail Kate shared without specifying the type.

Following her diagnosis, Kate shared that she was recommended to start chemotherapy, as chemotherapy is often used after surgery as an “adjuvant” therapy to reduce the chances of cancer returning.

As she concluded her message, she offered a ray of hope, stating that she is “well and getting stronger every day” by focusing on healing her “mind, body, and spirit.”

She ended her message on a note of solidarity and encouragement: “For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.” Her words aimed to uplift others battling cancer, reminding them of the collective strength and support that surrounds them.

After Kate’s public disclosure, Kensington Palace made it clear that no further details regarding her medical condition would be disclosed, emphasizing the princess’s right to medical privacy.
