This location consists of nine islands and offers plenty of stunning areas regardless of which of the islands you go to. However, Corvo, Graciosa and Flores are probably the best ones to consider if you’re looking to be away from people. Those three in particular are UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, which means they have a rich ecosystem that’s filled with wildlife and is protected.

Any one of those islands is great, but if you’re in the mood for hiking more, Corvo is the better option. It has great geology and the climb up through Miradouro do Caldeirāo offers a scenic viewpoint that overlooks the old caldera.

Located in Nunavut, it’s Canada’s largest atoll – spanning 200,000 square miles – with most of it above the Arctic Circle. As a result of its location, it offers vast and dramatic landscapes that are amazing when mixed with polar nights and midnight sun. There are of course the Northern Lights that make it even better.

The big reasons travelers go there are for the two national parks situated there: Auyuittuq and Sirmilik. These parks offer skiing, kayaking and even wildlife spotting.
