Tucked in the Gulf of Guinea and off the coast of Equatorial Guinea is this tiny nation that consists of these two islands. Between the two of them, Principe is the one you’ll want to check if you want more off-the-grid adventures.

Principe offers lush jungles that complement white-sand beaches and endemic flora and fauna. It also has another claim to fame, as it’s the same site that was used in the 1919 Eddington experiment. That’s the experiment that supported Albert Einstein’s theory of General Relativity.

If nature is your thing, this island has you covered. It’s a remote volcanic remnant that’s about 370 miles off the coast of New South Wales, Australia. It’s exclusive in that the island permits only 400 visitors to be there at any given time. The guideline there is to ensure that the Lord Howe Island Marine Park – the major diving area – remains in great condition.

Another great area to check while on the island is the Ball’s Pyramid. It’s a towering spit of land that also is the world’s tallest sea stack, standing at 1,844 feet high.

This island you may have heard of before here and there over the years, which is understandable.

The area is famous for its dragon’s blood trees, which produce red sap that is used for medicine and dye.

But one other aspect you may not have heard of is that Socotra is filled with wildlife that doesn’t appear anywhere else in the world. Of course, Socotra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a result, since 37 percent of its 825 plant species, 90 percent of its reptile species, and 95 percent of its island snail species fall into that category.
