Modular Advanced Armed Robotic System is exactly as it sounds. It’s an unmanned robot designed for military use and it’s raised a lot of ethical questions. Should we be creating robots for the purpose of killing and for war?

The idea of MAARS is that it can be equipped with all kinds of tools for any occasion. This can be weapons (both lethal and non-lethal), night cameras, satellite tracking systems, and more. It can all be operated remotely too.

Originally based on PETMAN, Atlas is a robot that is capable of all kinds of movement. It can run, jump, stand up when knocked down, cross difficult terrain, and can even do backflips without breaking a sweat.

 

 

Kuratas

Inspired by an anime he watched as a child, Kogoro Kurata asked a company to design and create Kuratas. Kuratas is a 13 feet tall robot weighing in at about 5 tons. You can place all kinds of attachments on him like a rotating BB minigun, a rocket launcher, and dexterous humanoid hands.

 

 

WildCat

Though not as fast as Cheetah, WildCat is the robot that’s able to bring it’s abilities outside of a testing environment. Currently, WildCat is the record holder for fastest free running quadrupedal robot, being able to hit speeds of 19.8 mph.

What’s even more shocking is that it can keep that speed even when maneuvering or turning corners. The goal is to have these guys hitting speeds of 50 mph.

Meet Sophia, a social humanoid robot that is programmed to interact with people. Sophia is capable of processing her own speech and understanding as well as being able to mimic facial expressions and behaviours too.

The creators behind Sophia believe she is the first step to creating sentient AI which does make sense. After all, she’s already received full citizenship within a country.

While she’s not fully ready to get out into the world, her existence has begun to blur the lines between human and machine, if only slightly.
