Study Reveals Doing This In Conversations Makes You Much More Attractive (2 of 2)

At The Same Time, Women Who Annunciate Well Are Considered More Attractive In Men’s Eyes

Naturally, the reverse also makes a lot of sense. Researchers believe that precise annunciation may be a more inherent trait in women, which to our brains is interpreted as a feminine quality over the course of our evolution. The team even cites previous studies that found people made fewer errors transcribing recorded speech when listening to female voices, rather than male speakers.

The team concluded that the results were also supported by their theory of speech clarity and attractiveness, finding that vowel space area covered for 73 percent of the variance in ratings.

The catch to that though was this was only obtained in the case of female speakers. Stehr, further emphasized that point in a MailOnline interview:

“Though the data we collected showed a strong relationship between clear speech measures and vocal attractiveness in female talkers, ultimately we did not find this to hold for our male talkers.”

The researchers conclude that their findings could also have major cultural implications as well. Implications that can affect our daily lives to society at large. At the same time, they did point out one potential paradox in this theory of selection over the course of our evolution.

“Constricted vowel space area and lower perceived clarity is associated with a range of speech motor disorders, suggesting a lack of clarity may also have indicated the presence of disease to our ancestors.”
