Phoebe Cates’ red bikini moment shot at a pool was what majorly impacted the generation then. A halter neck top with barely any lining and a low waisted minimalist bottom created a lot of noise in the design industry. No one ever thought about leaving the pool the same way ever again!

The teeny tiny bikini look continued to rule the masses later as well. The smaller the bikini, the better the look, was the idea that most designers and fashionistas followed that time.

The swimsuit looks back in the mid-’80s was a pattern similar to that of the letter ‘V’. Open backs were in at that moment, with plunged V-shaped necklines and super high cut bottoms, managing to drape a woman’s body in the fashion of the letter. Unlike the other years, the look started to develop a more voguish vibe rather than a rogue one.

Goldie Hawn in Overboard made swimsuits look like a royal outfit rather than beachwear. With a lot of jewelry (that is gold!) and hair accessories, paired with bold makeup and a bright bikini top, she made it seem pretty ‘over the top.’

She changed the perception of the masses about a bikini, as people started to tuck it into jeans and skirts and show up at events or parties instead of just wearing it by the pool or at the beach. This one can be called the onset of bodysuits which are so popular these days.

This is the time when solids changed into florals and checks, and single-colored suits changed into multi-colored ones.

This bikini worn by Nicolette Sheridan in the picture made a style statement, which brought back the off-shoulder strapless bikini top from the early ‘60s with a classic high waist V-shaped bikini bottom.

Flaunting floral prints and multicolored scheme, this look managed to create a major rage that year.
