Hollywood is a fickle animal indeed. Actors struggle for a few years trying to make a name for themselves, find the perfect role that catapults them to stardom, make millions of dollars, earn the adoration of millions of fans, and live happily ever after. April Fool’s! They say something really stupid (or “speak the truth” if you happen to share their racist/bigoted viewpoint) and their career comes crashing down. Here are eight celebrities who were once a pretty big deal until they decided the whole world needed to know what awful people they truly were.

Katherine Heigl

For a while, Katherine Heigl was a legitimate star, earning plenty of high-profile roles in the late 2000s and early 2010s. But then she developed a reputation for being insufferable, questioning scripts, going all Karen and refusing to leave her trailer when she didn’t get her way, and burning bridges with co-stars. She continues to struggle to find work, and it appears that Grey’s Anatomy (which she last appeared on in 2010) will remain the pinnacle of her career.
