Judy’s expulsion from Valley of the Dolls was one of the most talked-about in Hollywood’s history. As told by Patty Duke, the lead actress of the movie, it was Garland’s alcohol problem that led to her dismissal and the role going to Susan Hayward. She went on to add that she could barely perform and was crumbling. Patty played Nellie O’Hara, a troubled singer, and actor that was inspired by Judy herself.

Holly Hunter from Chicken Little

How different Chicken Little would have been had the makers retained the original cast! The main character was going to be a girl with Holly Hunter doing the voiceover. However, Michael Eisner, Disney’s CEO later decided that it should be a boy and roped in Zach Braff for the same job. Although Chicken Little was good the way it was, now that we know of this fact, we can’t help but want to see it with Holly voicing our favorite character. Don’t we?

Harvey Keitel from Apocalypse Now

An actor who suffered the most due to being fired was Harvey Keitel. As shared by him in an interview, it made him contemplate quitting acting as he wasn’t getting any movies after that. It came as a shock to him when he was replaced with Martin Sheen to portray Captain Benjamin L Willard after a whole six weeks of production. In his defense, Walter Murch, the editor stated that Keitel can be seen in a shot in the final movie. That single shot cannot make up for what losing Apocalypse Now cost Harvey.

Edward Norton from The Avengers

Although we have now grown into seeing Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner or Incredible Hulk in Marvel’s movies, Edward Norton fits into the role just as well in the initial flicks. It was in 2019 when The Score actor disclosed to The New York Times the reason behind the recast. Ed accounted it to “creative differences.” On the other hand, a spokesperson from Marvel blamed the same on financial factors. This made Edward call a statement released regarding the matter and that be exclusive of such “pathetic brand defensiveness.”

Samantha Mortan from Her

Isn’t it amazing how aptly Scarlett Johansson’s sexy voice fits into the voice of the operating system in Her? The makers did put in a lot of work to make sure the character feels real. Spike Jonze disclosed to Vulture that he had finished the recording with Samantha and only realized in the editing stage that it doesn’t quite match the character. It was different from what they needed altogether. They had no choice, but to do a recast with Scarlett taking over the task.
