Try Out Skin-Softening Salves

Coconut Oil, Hand, Fluid, Gesture

Keeping up with personal care activities, another consideration is trying out skin-softening salves. Kind of like a mini-spa therapy, all you will need is to whip up a scrub. If you lack one, here is a good one to consider, courtesy of New York City makeup artist Gucci Westman:

Grind about two cups of oatmeal, a natural skin soother; add a few handfuls each of coffee grinds and brown sugar. Then stir in three or four spoonfuls of skin-nourishing honey, ginger, and Noni extract. You can find Noni extract in most health-food stores.

The only thing to note with this salve is you want to refrigerate it for a bit. Westman uses this and routinely scoops out enough for a week into a jar and keeps it in her shower.

Overall the salve smells great and is gentle on the skin. For those who have particularly dry skin, add in olive oil into the mixture.

Create A Family Recipe Book

Cookbook, Tableware, Dishware, Food, Recipe, Rectangle

Whether you cook around the house or have those interested in cooking, one thing that can occupy your time is making a family recipe book. Many families have traditional recipes and sometimes those recipes fail to get passed down. In those kinds of events, having a recipe book that keeps track of the various family dishes can be good.

In order to make this book, you’ll need:

  • An unlined journal.
  • Recipe cards.
  • Wine or champagne labels.
  • Photos from family meals.
  • Adhesive.
  • Photo corners.
  • A ruler.
  • Shimmery alphabet stickers.
  • And a ribbon.

From there, you’ve got all to make it. Here are some instructions to help you:

  1. Colour-copy all the recipe cards, photos, and labels if you want to preserve the originals or make more than one of these books.
  2. Compile the memorabilia by time period, holiday, or any other theme that inspires you.
  3. Affix the items horizontally. Use the photo corners for pictures and the recipe cards while you’ll use adhesive for labels and clippings.
  4. Lastly, stick a title on the front with alphabet stickers. Use the ribbon as a way to tie it all together.

Host A Mini-Marshmallow Popping Contest

Marshmallow Poppers, Dishware

Another crafty idea for children is having a mini-marshmallow popping contest. All that you’ll need are scissors, a utility knife, markers, a ruler, rubber bands, some glue, a tape, a gift wrap and a Kraft paper, a deflated balloon, a paper cup, and mini-marshmallows.

After that, you’ll need to make a popper. Here is how you make a popper:

  1. Knot the end of the balloon, and then snip off 1/2 an inch from the top.
  2. Next, stretch the balloon over the cutoff end of the cup, so that the knot is in the center. Note that you’ll need to hold the balloon in place when you go to “pop” it. You can also tie a rubber band around that area as well.
  3. Lastly, place a single mini marshmallow in the cup, so it fits into the knotted center. From there, you’ll want to aim the cup away from you and others, pull the knot back and release.

To make it a contest, you can do it in a few ways. Either you have a separate cup to be aiming for and see how many marshmallows people can get into the cup. The other is seeing who can shoot their marshmallow the farthest.
