The singer was observed by police at approximately 12:37 a.m. on Tuesday in Sag Harbor, New York, operating his vehicle while allegedly intoxicated. According to the authorities, Justin Timberlake was followed after failing to maintain a straight path on the road. He was trailed for about half a mile before officers activated their lights and eventually pulled him over at an intersection in a residential area.
Court records indicate that Timberlake exhibited bloodshot, glassy eyes and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. A Sag Harbor Village Police Department officer noted Timberlake’s inability to divide attention, his slowed speech, unsteady footing, and poor performance on all standardized field sobriety tests.
Timberlake refused a chemical test three times, initially stating, “No, I’m not doing a chemical test.” He also claimed, “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.” Although there is no mention of his friends intervening in the official report, sources indicate that several friends attempted to persuade the officers to be lenient, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Consequently, Timberlake was handcuffed and arrested.
Later, Timberlake was released without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 26 and is expected to be virtual, according to the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.
Sag Harbor is a village in the Hamptons on eastern Long Island. Timberlake reportedly left the American Hotel in the area shortly before his arrest.
Currently, Timberlake is in the midst of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, with concerts scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the United Center in Chicago.
