Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter, Shiloh, has officially dropped her father’s last name. On her 18th birthday, May 27, she filed a petition to change her legal name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. This decision was entirely Shiloh’s, and she even hired and paid for her own lawyer.
This development comes in the midst of Jolie and Pitt’s ongoing, high-profile divorce battle. The couple, who have six children together, separated in 2016 following Jolie’s accusations that Pitt had choked one of their children during a tumultuous trans-Atlantic flight. Jolie filed for divorce shortly after the alleged incident.
Though the divorce proceedings are still underway, Jolie and Pitt were declared legally single in 2019 through a “bifurcated judgment.”
Shiloh, the third-eldest of the six children, and is not the first to distance herself from the Pitt surname. Earlier this year, her 15-year-old sister Vivienne removed their father’s last name from her listing in the Playbill program for a Broadway production of The Outsiders. Additionally, in 2023, eldest daughter Zahara introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie while joining Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College.
However, Shiloh is the first sibling to formally petition for a legal name change.
