Beyoncé Reveals The Real Reason Behind Her Dramatic 2013 Pixie Cut

When Beyoncé revealed her new look on Instagram back on August 3, 2013, the internet nearly went into meltdown. Sure, she always looks stunning (because, well, she’s Beyoncé), but her short haircut left fans wondering what prompted such a bold change.

In a recent interview with Essence magazine, the singer finally opened up about the emotional journey that led to her drastic haircut, which still stands as one of the most dramatic hair transformations in celebrity history.

“I remember the day I decided to just cut all my hair off, I didn’t have a specific style in mind. It wasn’t about how it would look, but more about the emotional transformation I was going through.” – she recalled.

Beyoncé, now 42, explained that her hair has always been an integral part of her identity as a performer, whether it was her long braids or her voluminous curls. The one constant factor was the length.

“Chopping off my hair was my way of rebelling against society’s expectations of me as a woman,” she revealed. “I had just become a new mother, and something about that liberation made me want to shed all of those expectations. It was a physical representation of breaking free from those constraints. So, I just grabbed the scissors and went for it. It was deliberate, and it was exactly what I needed to do. It marked the beginning of many bold decisions I’ve made in my life and career, leading me to where I am today.”

Recently, Beyoncé has also shared her struggle with psoriasis, particularly ahead of the launch of her new beauty line.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease causing skin patches to become scaly and inflamed.

The multi-talented artist is venturing into the hair care industry with her new product line called Cécred, inspired by her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson. Scheduled to debut on Tuesday, February 20th, Cécred will offer a range of products, from tools to oils, shampoos, vitamins, and brushes. Beyoncé’s foray into the beauty world stems from her personal health journey.

In her conversation with Essence, Beyoncé revealed how her own experiences influenced the creation of the company and its products. The name “Cécred” combines the end of her name, “Cé,” with the word “sacred.” But beyond that, she explained that it also ties into her history with psoriasis treatments, which has been a part of her life since childhood.
