Remarkable Fitness Transformation: Sabre from Gladiators Shares a Throwback Picture of Her Unrecognizable Self

Sheli McCoy, better known to “Gladiators” fans as Sabre, recently took a trip down memory lane, sharing an eye-opening throwback photo. Her snapshot from 2012 reveals a time when she was four dress sizes larger before fitness completely transformed her life.

The star shared this inspiring transformation during an Instagram Q&A with her 113,000 followers.

In the throwback picture, a blonde Sabre is seen enjoying a night out with friends in a pub, looking quite different from the sculpted figure she now showcases on the BBC reboot of “Gladiators.” To motivate her fans, Sabre opened up about her fitness regime. She wrote: “I’ve trained 5-6 days a week for ten years with a mix of CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting, snowboarding, wakeboarding, skateboarding, climbing, swimming, biking and horse riding. I keep my calories logged, I eat a high-protein diet, I’m careful with sugars, I hydrate well daily. I work with a coach and on a periodised programme and my body’s look was never, and never is, the goal. It’s just a byproduct of my goals to complete and be the best version of my athletic self.”

Accompanying her message was a recent photo from a competition in France in 2018, highlighting the fruits of her fitness journey. Sabre shared her personal struggles, saying: ‘I became very unhappy and unhealthy in a terrible relationship that ended very traumatically and I gained a lot of weight. I promised myself I would do better, be better and become a role model and a leader, to make myself and others proud and that’s what I feel I have done.’

Sabre, who is a powerhouse of fierce athleticism and agility, attributes regular CrossFit and Olympic-standard weightlifting sessions, along with good sleep, to maintaining her powerful physique. She’s not just a fitness enthusiast; she’s a ‘grafter’ who puts in 16-19 hours of training every week. Her dedication has led her to compete in five British weightlifting championships and numerous CrossFit championships globally. She’s even been a Scottish champion in both sports.

Running a gym in Dundee, Scotland, Sabre is passionate about inspiring the next generation to achieve their fitness dreams. Her social media is peppered with workout videos, showcasing everything from lifting heavy weights to performing pull-ups and handstands.

McCoy’s message is clear and empowering: ‘I truly hope Sabre will inspire and empower the younger generation of strong capable females just as the gladiators I once watched inspired me to be a confident athletic women. It is Sabre’s time to shine – here come the powerful girls.’
