Rachel McAdams Unveils the True Reason Behind Turning Down Mean Girls Reunion

In November, a special Walmart commercial brought a nostalgic surprise for “Mean Girls” fans, featuring Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert reprising their roles from the iconic movie. However, Rachel McAdams, who played the memorable Regina George, was missing from the lineup.

The reason behind her absence was recently revealed by McAdams herself in her recent Variety interview. The 45-year-old actress shared that she decided not to participate in the commercial. McAdams explained, “I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a commercial, if I’m being totally honest. A movie sounded awesome, but I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag.” She also mentioned that she wasn’t aware her fellow cast members had agreed to the commercial and only found out about the full reunion after the fact. Despite her decision, McAdams expressed a fondness for “Mean Girls” reunions, saying, “I would, of course, always love to be part of a Mean Girls reunion and hang with my Plastics, but yeah, I found that out later.”

For Lindsay Lohan, who portrayed Cady Heron, the commercial was a long-awaited opportunity to reconnect with her former co-stars. “It was so nice being back together after all these years,” she said in a statement to E! News. Lohan cherished the chance to catch up and reminisce with Seyfried and Chabert.

Lacey Chabert, who played Gretchen Wieners, also shared her excitement about the reunion. “It was wonderful to spend the day with Amanda and Lindsay… It was so much fun to reminisce and be together again after all these years,” Chabert said to E! News, reflecting on the joy of reuniting with her former castmates.

The reunion in the ad wasn’t just limited to the leading ladies. It also featured Daniel Franzese and Rajiv Surendra, reprising their roles as Damian and Mathletes captain Kevin G, bringing more of the original “Mean Girls” charm to the screen.

Looking ahead, fans of “Mean Girls” can anticipate a musical adaptation of the film, penned by Tina Fey, set to hit theaters on January 12, 2024. However, the original cast members, including Lohan, Chabert, Seyfried, and McAdams, will not be reprising their roles in this upcoming remake, marking a new chapter for the beloved story.
