Furthermore, they’re also completely surrounded by water (obviously), providing opportunities for water-based recreational activities like swimming, snorkeling, and leisurely cruises. Corvo Island, Portugal
If you want a vacation experience that focuses on the progressively small, start with the small country of Portugal, where the possibilities in Lisbon and Porto are endless, then visit the small Azores islands, and finish with a stop at Corvo Island, the smallest of the Azores! It is approximately 6.6 square miles (10.5km), which technically makes it one of the biggest small islands on this list. The main draw is the Caldeirão, a spectacular lake-filled volcanic crater with grassy fields, wildflowers, and amazing views. After a hike around the crater, you can stop in charming Vila do Corvo (population 380), the only village on the island, before taking a ferry back to Flores Island.
