8 Perfect Latin America Destinations For Winter Sun (3 of 5)

4. Ambergris Caye – Belize

Much like the other places on this list, January through March is the best time to enjoy Belize, as the weather is dry and comfortable. Belize is the only Central American country where English is the official language, which means you shouldn’t have any problems communicating with the locals. No trip to Belize would be complete without a stop in Ambergris Caye, the country’s largest island. Famous for its “no shoes, no shirt, no problem” atmosphere, the locals tend to get around by golf cart. Enjoy the white sandy beaches; go snorkeling or diving. Take a helicopter ride above the Great Blue Hole. And birdwatching? You better believe you can do that here!

5. Lake Atitlan – Guatemala

If your plans include exploring jungles and hiking up volcanoes, you definitely want to put Lake Atitlan in Guatemala on your list. You’ll also appreciate learning about the country’s rich indigenous heritage even as you take in the vibrant Spanish colonial architecture. In all honesty, there probably isn’t a “bad” time to go weatherwise, although the winter months are generally drier and the temperatures are most comfortable.
