11 One-Time Luxury Resorts That Sit Abandoned (3 of 6)

8. Grossinger’s Catskill Resort Hotel – New York, USA

Grossinger’s, in Liberty, NY, was once the crown jewel of the Borscht Belt. It gained fame for pioneering all-inclusive amenities and launching the careers of numerous entertainers. However, popularity in the hotel gradually waned as air travel lured vacationers to the Caribbean. The resort met its demise in 1986, and nature has since then begun to reclaim it.

7. Sanzhi UFO Houses – Taiwan

These pod-shaped “flying saucer” houses were a futuristic resort project started in 1978 outside New Taipei City. Wealthy travelers and foreign military personnel were the intended client base. But sadly, it was never meant to be. Lingering financial issues and the 1979 oil crisis prevented the colorful structures from being completed. Their bizarre design and eerie vibe made them a favorite among urban explorers and online communities until the resort was demolished in 2010.
