5. Batu Caves, Malaysia

The Batu Caves in Malaysia is one of the most sacred shrines for Hindus outside of India. In fact, when you visit, you’ll find Hindu statues all over the caves. The caves’ limestone walls are approximately 400 million years old and it has been used as shelter by indigenous people and settlers for centuries. Around 150 years ago the abundance of bat guano in the cave was mined so it could be used as fertilizer for local farmers.
