7. Uruapan, Mexico

Located roughly halfway between Mexico City and Guadalajara, Uruapan has served as an important city in terms of economic activity since the colonial days. It also happens to be the most dangerous city in the Mexican state of Michoacan, with 72.59 murders per 100,000. The Jalisco New Generation Cartel is a big problem in this city of 365,000 people because of course they are! They fight with rival gains over the lucrative cocaine and fentanyl trafficking routes.

8. Feira De Santana, Brazil

Just in case you think this article is meant to exclusively bash Mexican cities, we’re going to throw in one from Brazil for good measure. Fiera de Santana is the second largest city in the Brazilian state of Bahia, with nearly 620,000 people calling it home. While Rio de Janeiro gets a bad rap for its violence, Fiera de Santana is actually the most dangerous city in the entire country, and one of the most violent in the entire world, with 67.46 murders per 100,000. Aside from murders and assaults, the locals and tourists alike also have to deal with scams and pickpocketing. Yikes indeed!
