Back to the Future II made a few wild predictions that will probably never happen, such as hovering skateboards or the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series…oh wait, they were only one year off with that one! But another really impressive concept that did come into fruition was biometric technology, which was far-fetched back in 1989 but is used today for such routine things as crossing borders, accessing your smartphone, and opening a door to enter a highly secure location.

Star Wars — Holographic Projection

Near the beginning of the original “Star Wars” movie, the scene where Princess Leia pleads for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s help via holographic projection is what really kicked off the film’s entire narrative. These days the company Base Hologram uses this technology to allow deceased performers like Tupac and Whitney Houston to perform on stage. Admittedly, you can’t deny that this is a bit creepy though.
