9 Celebrities Who Made Their Religion Go Viral (3 of 5)

4. Kayne West — Christianity

In late 2019, rapper Kanye West announced that he was now a Christian believer, telling Vogue that he had come to realize that he didn’t have all the answers but that his ego had essentially blinded him to this. He acknowledged his shortcomings, noting that being a Christian is not the same as being Christ Himself. He declared that going forward, he would only surround himself with people who were a positive influence. And then he promptly went back to saying insane things like Hitler was a good guy and that the Holocaust never happened. However, his spiritual awakening was enjoyable while it lasted.

5. Richard Gere — Buddhism

In October 2025, longtime actor Richard Gere premiered his documentary film Wisdom of Happiness, which is about the Buddhist teachings of the Dalai Lama, whom Gere has developed a close friendship with over the years. Tibetan monks introduced Richard Gere to Buddhism back in 1978, and he remains a devout Buddhist to this day. Although his oldest son Homer appreciates that he never tried to push his religious beliefs on him, he also takes to heart his father’s advice on treating others with kindness, which is one of the main tenets of Buddhism.
