9 Celebrities Who Made Their Religion Go Viral (2 of 5)

2. Madonna — Kabbalah

When Madonna announced in the mid-90s that she had converted to Kabbalah, a Jewish mystical tradition, a lot of people figured she was just saying stuff to get attention, as she usually did. But here we are, 30 years later, and she’s still a follower. Appearing as a podcast guest for the first time in September 2025, she revealed on On Purpose with Jay Shetty that her core beliefs are guided by Kabbalah, including the need to have humility, to not take success for granted, and to accept yourself rather than succumb to the judgement of others.

3. Will Smith — New Age Spirituality/Self-Realization

During an interview with Christian hip hop artist Lecrae in April 2025, actor and rapper Will Smith described his religion as “love.” He stated that he was influenced by his grandma’s Christian beliefs, especially as it related to the Old Testament, in addition to Buddhist and Hindu principles. Furthermore, in 2022, he told Egyptian journalist Amr Adeeb that he had used that past Ramadan as an opportunity to read the Quran from cover to cover. Ultimately, he holds the belief that people can achieve peace and harmony by seeking a universal truth.
