Get Your Pet To The Vet If They Do This (2 of 2)

Four, Know The Source Of The Problem

For dogs in particular, when they are displaying this behaviour, it’s because of how their body functions. In dogs, their liver serves as a way of filtering blood from their digestive systems. It’s important, but many dogs carry an internal abnormality which alters the filtration process.

This is known as a liver shunt, which causes unfiltered plasma to go through their liver.

How this shunt came to be can be in two ways. Either they had this at birth or it was developed as the dog aged. Either way, these shunts are things that you can fix yourself or need a vet’s help.

For cats on the other hand, the causes can be glandular issues or metabolic abnormalities. That being said, you’ll need to bring your cat in to see a vet for them to be able to tell you specifically what’s causing this behaviour.

Fifth, Getting Treatment

Getting treatment is the only way for this to get fixed, but it still pays to know the process. After all, your pet is going to go through a lot of tests. From Dr. Katy Nelson herself, a vet who wrote to PetMD stated that.

The first stages are about figuring out the underlying cause of the head pressing. When sent to a vet, the doctor will perform a fundal examination of the retina. They’ll also check the back of the eye as well.

Other tests may be run like blood pressure measurement, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging scans and bloodwork and urine tests.

After that, the vet is likely going to be asking about behaviour your pet was going through. So make sure that you are making notes of their behaviour before seeing the vet. These notes can help in saving your pets life.
