Milk is only sold in bags

If you’re used to buying your milk in cartons or jugs, you’re in for a big surprise when you wander into the dairy aisle of a Canadian grocery store. Milk over here is only sold in bags. More specifically, you’ll find them in a large bag containing three smaller bags, which then need to be cut open with scissors and stored in a pitcher. The reason for the switch is pretty amusing. Back in the 1970s, when Canadians switched to the metric system, milk producers came to realize retooling factories for new glass bottles would be far too costly, so they opted for plastic bags, which were cheaper and faster to make.
