10 Things People Over 50 Understand Better Than Anyone Else (3 of 6)

4. Appreciate the little things in life

This memory is personal but really highlights the point. As a teen, I often visited my grandpa, and one of the best parts of our walks in the woods was when he pointed out trees. He had been a wildly successful businessman who had accomplished it all and could buy anything he wanted, but at this stage, what brought him more happiness than anything was to enjoy the wonders of nature with his grandson.

5. Adaptation is easier than you might think

There is a common misconception that once you reach a certain age, you have no interest in adapting to the times. If anything, older adults have an easier time adjusting to changes compared to younger folks precisely because they have so much experience with a changing world. The most striking observation to prove this point is that it’s always Generation X and the Boomers who, seemingly unaware of the irony, use smartphones and social media to complain about how smartphones and social media have taken over society. The truth is, adaptation is why those 50 and older are so good at keeping up with the times.
