8. Seeking jobs that conform to your priorities
Looking for a remote job with flexible hours? Or perhaps you only wish to work part-time so that you can focus more on your mental health? Working 9 to 5 and remaining with the same company your entire career was something practically everybody strived for. But now that businesses can’t always be counted on to show loyalty to their employees, a lot of people (especially Gen Z’s) are taking charge and, in many cases, moving from one job to another after only a few years or even months. They’re also making sure their work schedules and career choices revolve around their needs and not the other way around. Older generations aren’t necessarily on-board with this way of thinking, but good luck trying to return to the past.
9. Going to school in your 30s and beyond
It used to be, once you graduated from high school at 18 or college at 22, you went out into the workforce and never looked back. Anybody who entertained the idea of getting a college degree past their 20s was considered “too old” to be able to learn anything new, so what was even the point? Well, people have started to come around. For some of those returning to school, personal matters may have gotten in the way of their education aspirations when they were younger, or many just didn’t know what they wanted to do. For others, going back and getting a degree in their 40s is necessary for the career change they’re hoping to make. Whatever the reason, non-traditional students are embraced by colleges and indeed society as a whole.
