But in the days before the Internet, there was no practical way to contact a hotel in Rome and make a reservation. You also weren’t entirely aware of what activities to do since TripAdvisor wasn’t a thing yet. So you left all the work to a travel agent. Based on your budget and interests, they’d pick the hotels, activities, and put together an entire vacation itinerary for you.
