To help us get going with the best beauty trends of 2021, Sir John discusses some of the most popular ones we all should watch out for. Without further ado, let’s check out what Sir John wants us to try out other than putting down that contour brush and trying “tightlining”.

Sculpting 2.0

Aggressive forms of doing contours are way past the expiry date, argues Sir John. Then what is the way going forward? Sculpting 2.0, he says. Invisible sculpting, which corresponds to the softer appearances that come out on the face, rather than the hard lines, or as he calls them VCLS – visible counter lines – need to go.

Try the statement lip

There will be more lip stains this year, says Sir John. There is no better time than this year to see if your long-wear lipsticks will actually work. The key, however, is to find out if they stick to the lips long enough without drying them out. He recommends a bit of a trial and error method to figure out which long-wear lipstick will work the best for your needs. The one that passes your test should allow your lips to stay hydrated, he further adds.

He also recommends using eye cream over that lip balm to ensure the lip texture doesn’t change much if you are wearing a matte. An eye cream will keep your lips hydrated. Much like the skin of our eyes, the lip skin is also transparent, and that’s why eye cream can actually work in this case.

Try “tightlining” this year

Tightlining is a technique where you lift your lash line a bit and then use a black pencil to line that area, which is just below your lashes. So, what it really does is that it makes your lashes look super dense and thick. This is more of a mirage, and the ruse is that no one will be able to make out if you are using a liner, but it will end up giving you a great eyeliner effect too. So, tightlining is a must this year!
