Does Epsom Salt Actually Add Volume to Hair?
One theory is that Epsom salt can remove some of the oils that coat individual strands of hair. Excess oil can begin to weigh down hair and make it look more flat, especially around the roots. Removing some of that oil has the potential to make strands feel lighter and can create the appearance of more texture and volume. But there still needs to be more clinical studies to find more evidence to support these findings. For someone with naturally fine, oily, or limp hair, the temporary texturizing effects of Epsom salt could be a useful reason to experiment to see if it works in a positive way.
Is the Magnesium in Epsom Salt Beneficial for Hair?
Magnesium is an essential and vital mineral that contributes to many important processes throughout the body. That doesn’t mean that applying magnesium straight to your scalp will improve your hair immediately. This is because there is conflicting evidence about how effectively the skin can directly absorb magnesium. Furthermore, there isn’t much research that demonstrates whether topical Epsom salt can improve scalp health or strengthen your hair. What is currently widely accepted is that a healthy diet and getting adequate nutrients through what you eat is one of the most important things you can do for supporting overall hair health.
