Your physical and emotional tension levels are always at 10
Many people live in a constant state of high alert. Even when no threats are taking place, the body behaves as if danger is just around the corner. You simultaneously feel tired and restless. Muscles stay tight, the jaw clenches, and the mind runs loops of anxious thought. You go into “fight or flight” mode, which is bound to wear out your body both physically and emotionally. Those close to you, including friends and family, begin to wear out themselves just from having to deal with your behavior.
The Fix: Take up yoga, meditation, go jogging, or listen to relaxing music. Train yourself to distinguish between the moments when it’s perfectly normal to feel anxious (such as before a big presentation) and when you’re getting yourself riled up for no discernible reason. You don’t need to change your life overnight; just gradually make progress by reminding yourself it’s okay to exhale.
