Tomatoes
You should never keep raw tomatoes in the fridge because it dries out their juiciness (the key characteristic of a good tomato, after all) and dulls their otherwise rich, umami flavor. Note that this applies to all varieties of tomatoes, from tiny cherry to large heirloom. Instead, you should keep them on your counter, although away from direct sunlight.
Avocados
Avocados are amazing. But they’re also a source of significant frustration if your goal is to eat them fresh. Once they’re cut open, it’s remarkable how quickly the air changes them from “rich and creamy” to “brown and mushy” in a matter of a few minutes. As you’re waiting for them to ripen, they should stay out of your refrigerator since the cool air slows down the process. Of course, once you slice them, you absolutely would want to store them in the fridge to prevent rapid browning. A couple of ways to preserve their freshness for as long as possible is to add some lime juice and store it with its pit intact.
