2. Teach the kids about the wonders of germination
Whether you’re an elementary school teacher or a parent who will stop at nothing to raise the world’s next great horticulturist, sprouting an avocado pit is a great way to teach children about germination. It is super easy to do:
- Rinse the pit
- Fill a jar with water
- Stick four toothpicks into the pit
- Suspend it over the jar so it touches the water
- Put it in a place where it can get some sun
- Wait for around six weeks and bask in the glory of a job well done when the sprouts begin to appear!

3. Make a Cup of Tea
Yes, avocado pits are edible! In fact, they even have curative and anti-cancer properties, not to mention a pleasant taste when made into tea. The process is simple: just peel the avocado pit to remove the outer layer, cut the seed into fine pieces, and boil in a cup of water for around 5 minutes. Add some ginger or lemon and honey, and you’ve got yourself a mighty delectable beverage!
