The World’s 8 Best Ethnic Cuisines (4 of 5)

Mexican Cuisine

We aren’t talking about Taco Bell here. Or even Taco John. Or Del Taco. Or any faux Mexican restaurant with the word “taco” in it, okay? Real Mexican tacos are made of soft corn tortillas, not the crunchy variety or white flour as you’ll find in the “Mexican inspired” version you’ll find in the US. Refried beans, seasoned rice, diced and pulled pork and chicken are staples, along with fresh cilantro and creamy white cheeses. If you’re truly looking for adventure, give escamol a shot. That would be ant eggs, typically served in tortillas with guacamole and seasonings.

French Cuisine

The French are legendary for two things: their utter snobbiness and their fine food. They love incorporating fresh cream and wine sauces into their dishes along with garlic and fresh herbs. French soups are unquestionably the best in the world, and they bake a pretty mean croissant. Snails and frog legs? They are a million times better than you’re imagining. The various regions of France are notable for their original dishes including Quiche Lorraine, Lapin a La Cocotte (rabbit stew) and Soupe De Poissons, which sounds pretty dangerous, but is really just a harmlessly delicious fish-based soup.
