A Steve McQueen movie starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender in leading roles, 12 Years a Slave is the story of slaves during the 19th century. The raw and dark portrayal of the slavery world won over the critics and audiences alike, and was nominated for several awards at the Oscars. It ended up winning the Academy award for the best actress in a supporting role, amongst others at major award ceremonies. The movie was loosely based upon the memoirs of a New York born free person who was sold in the slave market later. The movie is known for its raw, graphic storytelling and is definitely not for the faint hearted.
