Her character was smart and supposedly an expert in unusual criminal behavior, which sounds like a perfect set of skills for studying Bruce Wayne’s complicated psychology and challenging him in ways the villains couldn’t, right? Yeah, well, unfortunately, the finished character was mostly asked to look sexy, flirt with Batman, and wait to be rescued.
Kidman later acknowledged that she had hoped the role would offer more depth and opportunities to explore her character. She even humorously questioned the contrast between Chase’s professional background and her behavior throughout the film, wondering whether her character was really supposed to be a psychologist.

It is a fair question, considering that Chase spends much of the film behaving less like a trained criminal psychologist and more like an extremely enthusiastic member of the Batman fan club. She shines a Bat-Signal to invite him over, openly admits her attraction for him, and quickly becomes part of a love triangle involving Batman and Bruce Wayne.
There were occasional hints of a deeper character. Chase recognizes that Batman’s identity is connected to childhood trauma, and she somehow eventually works out that Bruce is the man beneath the mask. However, those moments never receive enough time or attention to turn her into a fully developed part of the story.
