Kid Rock — U.S. Senate in Michigan
In 2017, the rap/rocker/conspiracy theorist launched a “Kid Rock for US Senate” website and even sold campaign merchandise. This triggered massive media coverage and speculation over what the world would be like if it included a Senator Rock roaming around in the U.S. Capitol. But he never technically ended his campaign because he never actually took any of the required steps to run in the first place. He went on to admit on the Howard Stern Show that it had all been nothing more than a publicity stunt to promote his upcoming album, Sweet Southern Sugar.
Cynthia Nixon — Governor of New York
Unlike the others on this list so far, Nixon actually went through with her campaign. The Sex and the City star ran as the insurgent progressive candidate in the Democratic primaries against incumbent Andrew Cuomo. Although her liberal platform was successful at pushing Cuomo to the left on several issues, the primary didn’t end up being particularly close. She took around 34.5% of the vote to Cuomo’s 65.5%.
