Justin Trudeau’s Post-Prime Minister Life: Main Facts to Know (3 of 5)

Being a Celebrity is Trudeau’s “Normal”

Before holding the highest office in the country, most Canadian prime ministers, including Carney, were viewed as regular citizens. But in the case of Trudeau, he’s always been a celebrity, so it comes as no surprise that his status hasn’t really changed since his exit from politics. While his predecessor Stephen Harper launched a consulting firm and has served as the chair of various organisations, Trudeau’s post-prime minister life has been profoundly different. Fifty-three years old is a relatively young age to finish a political career, so he’s going to have plenty of time on his hands for decades to come.

Embracing Social Media

Although social media was very much a thing when Harper led Canada, he has never embraced it in the way that Trudeau has. You only needed to have seen Trudeau’s first posts on Instagram following Carney’s ascension to realise he isn’t planning to fade away. In those posts, Trudeau posted a selfie while at Canadian Tire, where he was purchasing utensils and appliances to mark his return to civilian life. The selfie was one of his key modes of communication with the people of Canada while he was prime minister, and continues to remain the case.
