7 Times the Royals Completely Ignored Their Own Rules (3 of 4)

Catherine called Charles “Grandpa”

This one might be the cutest offense on the list. At formal events, royals traditionally use proper forms of address. For a senior royal, that usually means “Your Royal Highness” at first, then “Sir” or “Ma’am.” So when Catherine, then Duchess of Cambridge, greeted Prince Charles as “Grandpa” at the 2021 G7 reception in Cornwall, royal fans went bananas.

It wasn’t a serious breach of protocol, but it was a cute reminder that they are also a real family. This was a rare moment when we saw the royal family’s human side, and it was nice. They should do this more often.

Meghan wore Dior to Archie’s christening

Royal events, especially christenings, are usually packed with tradition, and Archie’s 2019 christening wasn’t an exception. The service took place at Windsor Castle, Archie wore the royal christening gown, and the Archbishop of Canterbury conducted the posh ceremony. But then people noticed Meghan was wearing a cream Dior look.

The history between Britain and France has been bumpy to say the least, so you can imagine everyone’s surprise when they see their royal wearing fashion from France. Luckily for Meghan, Archie’s birth announcement was a mix of old and new, so her fashion choice flew largely under the radar.
