In a just world, the Night King would have been at the top of this list. For 8 seasons there was this huge buildup where he was supposed to be the show’s ultimate threat. In fact, a White Walker was in the very first scene of the show. Turns out, he wasn’t even the “final boss.” Still, this silent, shadowy figure generated a sense of dread for years, and for that reason he’s earned this spot.
5. Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish
The entire essence of the show can be distilled from one character – Petyr Baelish. He’s a schemer, betrayer, and a manipulator. He’s especially intriguing because we as the viewer aren’t ever entirely sure of his intentions. His dialogue is written masterfully, and he really drives the plot during the first few seasons. Disappointingly, his brilliance fizzles out as the series goes on, and for this reason he isn’t at the very top of the list.
