2. Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009)
Chances are, you’ve read the true story that this movie is based on while scrolling through your Instagram feed. It recounts the bond between a university professor (portrayed by Richard Gere) and his Akita, Hachiko. Every day, the dog waits at the train station for his owner’s return. Even after the professor dies suddenly from a brain aneurysm while giving a class lecture, Hachiko continues to wait every day for nine years until his own death. Ninety years later, Hachiko is still revered in Japanese culture as a symbol of loyalty.
3. Marley & Me (2008)
Most audiences went into this movie expecting it to be a lighthearted family comedy, but came away feeling extremely emotional. Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston star as a couple who adopt Marley, a mischievous Labrador whose antics bring laughter and chaos. Over time, audiences watch Marley grow old and face illness. The ending, though expected, is a reminder of how much joy dogs bring us, and how painful it is to say goodbye to them.
