7 TV Couples First Meetings & Final Scenes (4 of 4)

Sam Malone & Diane Chambers — Cheers (1982–1993)

When Diane first steps into Cheers, she doesn’t plan on spending time with the bar’s owner, Sam Malone, a former baseball player and notorious flirt. In particular, Diane is unimpressed by his brash personality, and their opposing worlds clash in hilarious ways. Their dynamic drives much of the early seasons, culminating in a will-they-won’t-they storyline that helped define TV romance. Shelley Long’s departure in Season 5 ended their relationship, but Diane returned for the series finale. They briefly rekindle things and even board a plane to start anew in Los Angeles. But right before departure, they come to realize that they’re better apart. It’s an emotional farewell, but a refreshingly realistic one in a world full of sappy endings.

Cory Matthews & Topanga Lawrence — Boy Meets World (1993–2000) & Girl Meets World (2014–2016)

While Cory and Topanga technically already know each other when Boy Meets World begins, their first meaningful connection happens during a school project. At first, Cory finds Topanga to be a bit weird and eccentric. But that quirkiness is precisely what makes her unforgettable. Their love story matures along with them, eventually culminating in marriage. In the spin-off Girl Meets World, Cory and Topanga are still together, now as parents offering wisdom to their own children. Their evolution from middle school classmates to loving adults is one of the most heartwarming arcs in teen TV history.
