5 Celebrity Parents With Strict Philosophies on Raising Their Children

There is no universal blueprint for how celebrity parents are supposed to raise their kids. Some unapologetically spoil their kids with luxury vacations and $1,000 designer brand dresses, while others are determined not to let wealth dictate their children’s upbringing. For the latter, that means setting rules about behavior, privileges, and even what TV shows and movies they’re allowed to watch.

Some Hollywood stars have some pretty interesting approaches to parenting. For example, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher stated in an interview that they don’t believe in buying their children gifts. Ever. There is no “Christmas” loophole to this rule. Meanwhile, Jason Momoa has banned his kids from being able to watch his early roles, which not surprisingly includes Game of Thrones. Gabrielle Union seems to take pride in describing herself as a strict, overprotective mom, while Gwyneth Paltrow only permits her kids to watch TV shows in foreign languages like French or Spanish.

While fans of these A-listers might question their tactics, each parent believes they’re doing what’s best for their family. In addition to these examples, here are five other celebrities known for their strict parenting philosophies.

Cardi B

Cardi B had a fairly strict upbringing as a child. For instance, her mom prohibited her from attending sleepovers in order to avoid negative influences and temptations. Nonetheless, she confessed that she occasionally defied this rule and, as a result, made some poor choices like skipping school and even joining a gang. Upon reflection, she believes strict boundaries saved her from even worse outcomes, such as teenage pregnancy. Now that she’s a mother of three herself, she’s determined to pass on that discipline to her children. Although she happily spoils them with lavish gifts, she’s placed heavy restrictions on what they can do outside the home.
