5. Cucumber

I know that at this point you think I’m pulling your leg. There’s no way on earth that cucumbers would be a fruit, right? Well, actually cucumbers are part of the melon family. First of all, as we’ve established already, cucumbers have seeds in them, which classify them as fruit. Second, they’re basically less tasty melons, but we can all agree that melons are fruits, right?

6. Peas

Surely peas are vegetables, right? Well, wrong again. Pees are technically fruits and in the first few hours of harvesting are actually quite sweet. If we’d eat them right after harvesting them, they’d have a whole different taste than the one we’re used to right now.

7. Okra

Okra aren’t sweet by nature, which is why most people kind of assume it’s just a vegetable. As with most assumptions most people make, it’s dead wrong, and okra are in fact a fruit. In case you don’t know what okra are, they’re a vegetable – again, not a fruit – used in quite a few dishes and that can be eaten in pretty much any form you can think of. You can have them raw, steamed, cooked, fried, probably even grilled. Just do whatever you want with them.

8. Pumpkin

I know the common way to go is that if it grows underground, it’s a vegetable, but science wouldn’t be science if it had other ideas about that. Since, again, pumpkins have seeds inside of the actual pumpkin, it’s a fruit. It is one of the most nutritious foods on this list though, so don’t let your fear of eating a piece of fruit scare you too much.
