36 Popular Songs That Artists Regret Creating (7 of 7)

Candy – Mandy Moore

Mandy Moore has had a long and turbulent history over her pop roots as a singer. For years, she’s publicly shamed her earliest tracks. One of particular note was her mega-hit “Candy”

“Ugh, those were awful–just awful! If I had the money, I would give a refund to everyone who bought my first two albums. Whenever people ask, `Which of your albums should I listen to?’ I say, `Nothing but Coverage [an album of cover songs]. Burn the rest!’”

Although that’s been said years ago, more recently, Mandy Moore has sung this track live, stating she found a new appreciation for her early start in the music industry.

All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You – Heart

Ann Wilson has gone out of her way to explain why she absolutely loathes this song now. In a Rolling Stone interview, she reveals:

“That was a demo in a big pile of demos that the A&R department at Capitol gave to us. We were just slamming through all these songs and this one popped out because, obviously, it’s really catchy. But it has a really controversial story to it, at least for that time.”

She later went on to stress this further:

“A woman is driving along in the night and picks up a hitchhiker. They have casual sex, she gets pregnant and keeps the baby. And she kind of gloats over it when she sees the hitchhiker again and he recognizes his own child. And I mean, as an actress I could put it across. But as a human being I thought it was pretty disgusting. Pretty dark and negative. And just the fact that the whole casual-sex thing, it’s OK that boys will be boys, but turn it around and make it come from the woman’s view and all of a sudden it’s so excitingly weird and titillating. I thought it was gross. So that’s why we don’t do the song anymore. I can’t sing the words – I’m not that good of an actress. I can’t get off on it.”

Sometimes – Britney Spears

It’s great to be seeing Britney back on her feet again and it could be as good of a time as any to go back through some of her old songs. One that’s incredibly popular and high in the nostalgia scale is the song “Sometimes”.

While fans love it, Britney has been a tease about this particular song and implies she regrets this particular song since she isn’t fond of it. In her Onyx Hotel Tour in 2004, as she was exiting the stage she said this: “I have to go? I haven’t even sung ‘Sometimes’ yet! Oh God! I never liked that song anyway!”

Let It Be – The Beatles

John Lennon was not a big fan of this particular song despite it being beloved by fans all over. It’s one of their most iconic songs.

Any fan of the band would know that there were some definite creative differences between John Lennon and his bandmate Paul McCartney, with Lennon reportedly calling Paul’s writing style “granny music.” He further talked about his contempt in an interview later:

“I don’t know what he’s thinking when he writes ‘Let It Be.’ That’s Paul. What can you say? Nothing to do with The Beatles. It could’ve been Wings…I think it was inspired by [Simon & Garfunkel’s] ‘Bridge Over Troubled Waters (sic).’ That’s my feeling, although I have nothing to go on. I know he wanted to write a Bridge Over Troubled Waters.”

Gucci Time – Gucci Mane

A little ironic that Gucci Mane doesn’t think this song is all that Gucci.

After the song was dropped, the rapper made an appearance on The Breakfast Club and called the song the worst song of his career. Even if he’s not a fan of the song, the public was at the time with this song hitting No. 12 on the U.S. Billboard Rap Songs chart.

Invincible – Machine Gun Kelly

MGK wasn’t a fan of his early work before making it mainstream and this also includes the song “Invincible” with Ester Dean. This song became popular as it went on to be the theme song for WWE’s WrestleMania XXVII and for Thursday Night Football.

“First off, I hated the song when I first did it because it was brought to me by corporate America. So basically Jimmy Iovine was like hey, first off they didn’t even come to me with the song, it was like a contest between the Interscope rappers like Yelawolf, Kendrick Lamar and myself, which I found out. It sucked and I hated it.”
