13 Stars You Never Noticed Retired From Acting

Whenever we encounter an actor that we absolutely love, we tend to remember that particular movie most of all – after all, it was the first time we loved their talent in that role.

But while the first movie we’ve seen of their work is embedded in us, it can be difficult for us to pinpoint the last time they ever appeared on screen when new episodes or movies come out.

As is the case with everything in life, all things must come to an end and that is no different with stars. Mind you, not every actor who stops acting is stemming from a direct result of passing away, but rather some actors and actresses officially or unofficially choosing to retire.

For this list, we’ll look at these particular actors whose reasons and methods span widely.

Some made official statements, while others quietly stopped working. Regardless, here are 13 Hollywood stars that we’ll never see appear on the screen for the indefinite future.

Jack Nicholson

With over 50 years of acting under his belt along with multiple Oscar awards, Jack Nicholson is a Hollywood legend. Despite his fame though, the last film fans speculate he was in was his 2010 appearance in How Do You Know.

The reason for the speculation is that Nicholson never officially announced he retired from acting. All that we have are the words of his close friend Peter Fonda who commented about the 84-year-old actor’s career in 2017 stating: “I think he basically retired. I don’t want to speak for him, but he has done a lot of work and he has done very well as a person financially.”

Amanda Bynes

One of the youngest on this list is Amanda Bynes. At the height of her career as a child star, she was everywhere and starred in several shows. It all started with her own show on Nickelodeon before getting into leading roles in several teen comedy movies. Movies like She’s the Man and What a Girl Wants to solidify her acting career.

All of that came to a halt though after she starred in Easy A alongside Emma Stone. Bynes took to Twitter and announced she was retiring in 2010. She wrote:

“If I don’t love something anymore, I stop doing it. I don’t love acting anymore, so I’ve stopped doing it. I know 24 is a young age to retire, but you heard it here first.”

Bynes is now 35 at the time of writing this and so far she has yet to make an appearance in any films despite stating in a 2018 Paper interview that she was going to make an appearance eventually.

Cameron Diaz

Starring in massive hits like My Best Friend’s Wedding, There’s Something About Mary, and Charlie’s Angels, Cameron Diaz was one of the “It girls” for most of the ‘90s and early 2000s.

Despite her massive fame, the last time anyone saw her on-screen was in the remake of Annie in 2014. Since then, she hasn’t been seen and there is a pretty good reason for it.

During an appearance on Kevin Hart’s Hart to Hart talk show, Diaz (who is now 49) said she realized something when she was 40. She realized that her desire was for her life to be more manageable for her to have more control over it. She couldn’t stand the fact of letting someone else handle it all.

“I met my husband [Benji Madden], we started a family, all those things I didn’t have time for before. Actually, not just have the time for but didn’t have the space to make the right decisions for me at the time to bring that in.”
