Yes, it was The Notebook actor Ryan Gosling who was initially cast for the grieving dad’s role in The Lovely Bones. As he revealed to The Hollywood Reporter, a major mistake he made was not discussing the character with the director during the production stage. Given that it was one big movie that required a ton of things to be dealt with, the makers couldn’t explain the characters individually. While Ryan visioned it as someone unfit and lethargic, director Peter had pictured a skinny and malnourished Jack Salmon. Mark Wahlberg bagged the part and did justice to the character too.

Julianne Moore from Can You Ever Forgive Me?

This is one firing none of us is unaware of. Julianne herself has repeatedly been heard talking about it. She told on Watch What Happens Live to host Andy Cohen that the reason behind it was her failure to portray the character to the director’s, Nicole Holofcener, expectation.

Moore’s idea of the character was not the same as the director’s. Interestingly, it was Marielle Heller who directed most of the movie and she chose Melisa McCarthy to play Lee Israel.

Mellissa went on to win an Oscar nomination for the same movie.

This concludes our list of stars who didn’t make it to the final cast of some of the most popular Hollywood movies of all time. Which ones would you have preferred better with the original cast?
