Overalls

Overalls are essentially synonymous with Will Smith from Fresh Prince. Who can forget the lanky Smith carrying the one strap undone look with a batik shirt underneath!

They are back – and this time they come in denim and leather too. One strap undone was the rage in the 90s, but now it’s both straps fastened.

Velvet

Gwyneth Paltrow once wore a red velvet suit to the MTV Video Music Awards. The outfit became so iconic that designer Tom Ford recreated the look in 2019 for Gigi Hadid who looked absolutely stunning.

While velvet was a part of the grunge era, in 2020 the fabric was seen making a big comeback with dramatic midis and wrap dresses in jewel-tone velvet.

Baby Tees

Rachel Green from Friends paired baby tees with skirts, cargo pants, and the 90s staple – mom jeans! Her t-shirts often had graphics printed on them and showed her character’s evolution from a snob to a successful working woman. Reese Witherspoon was often spotted in baby tees and chain belts while letting her belly button show too.

Baby tees were actually what came to be known as the ‘crop top’ in later years. While with baby tees, flashing your belly button was usually the point, crop tops nowadays often show just a tiny bit of skin and are paired with high waisted pants or culottes.

Oakley Sunglasses

Before he became the suave Justin Timberlake of today, Justin was seen in all his frosted tip glory with cycling shades. Quite a sight indeed!

While Justin thankfully doesn’t have frosted tips anymore, Oakley sunglasses can still be spotted on the face of Selena Gomez or Kim Kardashian West.

Chinos

Brad Pitt can make any outfit work and he rocked the chinos look as well. One of the early adopters of chinos, Pitt started wearing chinos while dating Gwyneth Paltrow. The 90s was the coming out of the chinos and keeping with the vibe of the decade, they were often flared at the bottom.

Chinos were the ultimate noughties trend, since they could go from sharp to casual easily. They never truly went out of fashion. Pitt is still seen wearing chinos when out for a casual day or while out with his kids.
