Cooking and frying with minimal oil

Although it might sound too good to be true, it is indeed possible to cook a healthy meal with very little cooking oil and still love it! Simply put a bit of sunflower, extra virgin, or Canola oil onto a baking pan, coat the fish, meat, or potatoes, and bake until it is to your liking. You can use a traditional oven for this or even a convection oven. If you would like to cook your meals without oil at all, you can also opt for an air fryer. The end result will be food that is much lower in fat but with a great deal of taste!

The right temperature

Whether you’re using an oven with a baking pan or a skillet on the stove, make sure not to overheat the oil. When cooking vegetables, the maximum temperature should be 320°F (160 °C) and for fish or meat, you should not exceed 350 °F (180 °C). The problem is, if the cooking oil is too hot, you run the risk of cooking the meat too quickly on the outside while it remains raw on the inside. It’s best to use a thermometer to measure the temperature, but placing a small piece of bread or wooden stick into the oil works as well. When it bubbles up, you’re ready to cook the food.
