2. A lack of enthusiasm

When you get to work, look around and observe the attitudes of your coworkers. Are they coming to work late? Are they leaving early or at least bolting out the door the instant their work shift has come to an end? Do they seem relaxed or do they look anxious? Are they engaging in friendly banter with the rest of the staff or does everybody seem on edge? If the answers to any of these questions are in the negative, there is a very good chance you are working in a toxic environment. When a few employees lack motivation, it tends to spread around the office like wildfire. After all, if one person is clearly not exerting his or herself, why should anybody else? Fully examine this situation and ask yourself if the job is really worth it, and if you decide it isn’t, it’s time to send out those applications.

3. High turnover

Ever since you started your job, you’ve noticed a pattern: employees vanish only to be replaced with new staff that is bound to eventually disappear as well. Work isn’t an episode of “Unsolved Mysteries;” you know exactly what’s happening here – they’re leaving because they hate their jobs. A good way to protect yourself is to ask about the turnover rate during your interview. If they indicate that it is high, it is probably best to decline their offer.
