10 Best Car Manufacturers Of All Time (2 of 5)

Toyota

Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese automotive manufacturer that also got its start in 1937. It was at one time the largest car manufacturer in the world, although it currently stands at #2 behind Volkswagen. Nonetheless, it became the first to ever reach the 10 million production mark in a year, and if you look at any “reliability” rankings, Toyota is almost always at the top, as is Lexus, which just so happens to be Toyota’s luxury line of vehicles. When properly taken care of, Toyotas can easily last for 200,000 miles or even more.

Mercedes-Benz Group AG

One of the oldest car manufacturers in the world, Mercedes-Benz is also arguably the flashiest of luxury cars. Its origins can be traced back to Gottlieb Daimler’s 1901 Mercedes and Karl Benz’s 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, with the two joining forces in 1926. Mercedes are solidly built, possessing thick windows and a quiet muffler. Aside from luxury cars, Mercedes-Benz also specializes in buses, coaches, and trucks.

You would know Bayerische Motoren Werke by its more commonly referred to acronym, BMW. BMW began operations in 1916, more than two decades ahead of its German rival Volkswagen, and it now rivals Mercedes-Benz in terms of luxury. But while BMW gets a lot of praise for the sleek design and power of its cars, its motorcycle line is equally impressive. In fact, it is the leading manufacturer of luxury motorcycles. Mercedes-Benz can’t say the same; they don’t even make motorcycles.
